A DESIGNER WHO CODES

With a background in design, I find design governing most of the work that I engage in. Whether user experience design, print design, or typesetting, the foundation of good, clear, structured and communicative design is the same.

By combining years of experience designing across mediums with modern development and dev ops experience, I have a unique blended skill set that allows me to bridge the gap between designers and developers to create highly considered and usable experiences, whether they are traditionally printed or fully digital.

A DEVELOPER WITH A
SENSE OF DESIGN

As a developer who specializes in front end development I’m especially interested in scalability, performance and user experience across digital products. While the latest libraries/tools/platforms are always interesting to me, it’s far more important that a project is efficient, easy to use and performant.

My experience is largely in front end development, but also spans the full development stack from DevOps (managing and setting up Linux servers), server-side development (PHP and NodeJS specifically) to front end development (HTML5, CSS3, Javascript, etc.).

The Urban Ecologies project, for a biennial conference contributing to discourse around sustainable city planning, adaptive capacity and design futures, produced a suite of branding, promotional material and a digital presence. By combining themes of turbulence, transformation, and resilience, the conference was branded with a dark, future-focused visual style and an identity that draws on the visual metaphor of the adaptive life cycle as a Mobius strip.

As part of this project, a series of motion graphics were created for a promotional video. Again, playing on the themes of the conference and the darker overtones of the content. Designed to be a visual storytelling tool, the short video was used across social media as part of the promotion of the conference.
